BIBLE LANDS SEMINAR

Day 1 - Thu Mar 11
USA DEPARTURE
Be at the Boston Airport 3 hours prior to departure for check-in procedures. Meals will be served in-flight. DPT BOS: LH 423 @ 3:45 PM

Day 2 - Fri Mar 12
ARRIVE CAIRO

Change aircraft at Frankfurt. Continue to Cairo. Upon arrival in the afternoon you will be met in the customs area and transferred to your hotel.

Day 3 - Sat Mar 13
INTRODUCTION TO EGYPT
Region: Lower Egypt
Visit Memphis (ancient capital) and Saqoara (Step Pyramid, King Dipser). Proceed to pyramids camel stable and ride to the Pyramids of Giza (Cheops)(keep a S3 tip handy for the trip's end!). Proceed to a riverside lunch. This afternoon explore two galleries of the King Tut exhibit, in addition to other ancient artifacts of Egyptian culture, at the Museum of Antiquities. Transfer to the Cairo Rail Station for the overnight Pullman train to Luxor (includes meals).

Day 4 - Sun Mar 14
LUXOR, KARNAK
Region: Upper Egypt
Arrive Luxor early morning. Cross the Nile River into the Valley of Thebes to visit the Valley of the Kings (tombs), Queen Hatshepsut's funerary, the Colossi of Mernnon. Return to the East Bank of the Nile River and visit the temples of Amun-Re (Luxor and Karnak) and view Shishak's inscriptions, and the record of Tutmoses Hi's Canaan campaign. Lunch is included today. Late afternoon transfer to the train for Cairo.

Day 5 - Mon Mar 15
GOSHEN AND THE EXODUS
Region: Lower Egypt, Sinai
Today depart Cairo for Israelite archaeological sites: Tell el-Yahudeya (Leontopolis), Tell Basta, the Land of Goshen, Tell
el-Dab'a (Avaris/Ra'amses), Wadi Tumilat (ancient canal), tell el Maskhuta (Pithom), Lake Timsah (Reed Sea?), and lodge at
Ismalia.

Day 6 - Tue Mar 16
THE EXODUS TO MT. SINAI
Region: Lower Egypt, Sinai
Explore the traditional route of the Israelites to Mt. Sinai: Ein Musa, Wadi Suder, Ain Hawarah, Wadi Gharundel, and Abu Zeneimeh. Continue via Wadi Feiran, Plain of Rahah, the Feiran Oasis, view Mt. Serbal, and arrive Mt. Sinai. St. Catherine: Morgen Land

Day 7 - Wed Mar 17
SINAI SUNRISE, TO PETRA
Region: Sinai, Red Sea, Aqabah
Ascend in the dark to the top of Mt. Sinai. Watch the sunrise and return for breakfast. Visit St. Catherine's Monastery. Depart via the Watiya Pass (the "Manna trees") to Neuweiba. Cross the Red Sea by speed boat (self-porterage) to Aqabah. Transfer to a coach and continue to Petra.

Day 8 - Thu Mar 18
PETRA
Region: Edom
View Mt. Seir, Mt. Hor, and return to Petra. Ride horseback to the Siq and walk 2 1/2 miles r.t. via the Siq to the hidden Rose City of Nabataean culture. There is time to ascend the Highplace of Sacrifice and overview the Roman theater. Overnight at Petra.

Day 9 - Fri Mar 19
PETRA, AMMAN
Region: Ammon, Edom, Moab
Depart Petra on the old Kings' Highway, more than 5000 years old. Visit biblical Zered (Wadi Hasa), enter Moab. Proceed to Kerak (Kir-hareseth), descend Wadi Kerak to Bad edh-Dhra (biblical Sodom), and continue to Wadi Mujib, biblical Arnon. Visit Dibon, Medeba (the mosaic map of the cardo), Mt. Nebo, and arrive Amman.

Day 10 - Sat Mar 20
THE GENESIS TOUR
Region: Ammon, Gilead
Descend Wadi Jethro to the Jordan Valley. Visit Tel Deir Alia (Succoth), Wadi Jabesh, Pella. Ascend Wadi Yarmuk to Umm Qeis (Gadara). Continue to Jerash's enormous ruins and a Wadi Jabbok overview. Return to Amman.

Day 11 - Sun Mar 21
TO ISRAEL, SEA OF GALILEE
Region: Ammon, Jordan Valley, Sea of Galilee
Depart Amman early morning for the King Hussein Bridge (Allenby Bridge). Process through security and change to Israeli
services. Visit the OT tell of Jericho to view the dig of Dame Katnleen Kenyon. Continue up the Jordan River, past Wadi
Faria, and arrive Tell Beth-shean. Explore the demise of King Saul atop the tel, and continue to the site of Scythopolis (a
Decapolis city), the "Disneyland of modern archaeology". View the theater and continue to the Sea of Galilee for lodging and
dinner.
NOTE: Due to daylight hours and other factors the itinerary may be adjusted by mutual consent between President Brown and
your guide.

Day 12 - Mon Mar 22
SEA CIRCLE TRIP
Region: Sea of Galilee
Circle the sea visiting sites of Jesus' ministry. Depart for the Yarmuk River and ascend the Aphek Plateau for an unobstructed view of the Sea of Galilee from Kfar Haruv. Continue past Kource ("demons into the swine") to Bethsaida, home of Peter, Philip. Andrew. Visit the Mt. of Beatitudes, Jesus' Sermon on the Mount (Mt. 5-7). Optional is a foot descent to the seaside of Tabgha. Visit Capernaum, the center for Jesus' Galilean ministry. Optional is a lunch-break to sample St. Peter's fish. Board the Jesus Boat, a double-scale replica of a Roman fishing boat, to sail the sea. Visit the modem baptismal site of the Jordan River.

Day 13 - Tue Mar 23
TO UPPER JORDAN
Region: Upper Jordan, Sea of Galilee
Depart the sea on the ancient Via Mans, pass Hazor (ancient crossroads, largest Canaanite city) to Tell Dan. Walk through the Nature Preserve beside the roaring Jordan River to Tell Dan. View the High Place of Jeroboam. Proceed to Bamas (Caesarea Philippi), Peter's confession of Jesus as Christ. Return via Quneita to view the Syrian Border.

Day 14 - Wed Mar 24
TO CAESAREA, TEL AVIV
Region: Coast ofSharon, Jezreel Valley, Sea of Galilee
Depart for a visit to Harrod's Spring. Continue into the Jezreel Valley and ascend the hills of Nazareth for a brief visit. Proceed to Tell Megiddo, the NT Armageddon of Rev. 16. Visit the excavations and the water tunnel. Ascend Mt. Carmel to consider Elijah's encounter with the prophets of Baal. Continue to Caesarea Maritima (Acts 10, the encounter of Peter with Cornelius, a "god-fearer"). Recall Paul standing before Festus and Felix. Continue for an overview of the recent excavations, the theater, port and Roman aqueducts. Overnight at Tel Aviv.

Day 15 - Thu Mar 25
JUDAEAN SHEPHELAH
Region: Benjamin Plateau, Judaean Shephelah
Depart for Emmaus. Proceed to Beth-shemesh (Samson, Ark of the Covenant) and then to Neot Kedumim, the only Biblical Landscape Preserve in the world, 265 acres of "green archaeology" of biblical Israel. Tour and lunch here Continue into the Valley of Elah. Ascend Socoh and consider the geography of David and Goliath's encounter. Visit Tell Maresha's underground house and the columbari. Continue to Tell Arad and descend to lodaing on the Dead Sea.

Day 16 - Fri Mar 26
MASADA, TO JERUSALEM
Region: Dead Sea, Judaean Wilderness
Ascend the Masada fortress top via the new tram. Explore the dig of the last stand of the Jewish Zealots against the forces of Rome. Descend to the Dead Sea and Ein Gedi (David and Saul) and walk the path to the waterfall. Proceed to Qumran to view the caves. At NT Jericho ascend the Roman Road up the Wadi Qilt (reference for the story of the Good Samaritan). View the cliffside St. George's Monastery. Continue to Jerusalem for an orientation to the Old City from the Mt. of Olives and an ancient Genesis welcome.

Day 17 - Sat Mar 27
JERUSALEM, BETHLEHEM
Region: Jerusalem, Judaean Hills
Visit the Mt. of Olives for orientation to Jerusalem's Old City (Ps. 122). Walk the traditional Palm Sunday route past the Dominus Flevit Church to the Garden of Gethsemane. Proceed to the Dung Gate and enter the Ophel Ridge to view the Herodian pavement, the Temple foundation, and the Temple steps from Jesus' time, the one place where we know Jesus walked and taught (Lk. 19-21). Depart for the Judaean Hills and Bethlehem. Visit shepherds' fields, the Church of the Nativity, and take time for olivewood shopping before returning to Jerusalem.

Day 18 - Sun Mar 28
JERUSALEM
Region: Jerusalem
Visit Mt. Zion and the Upper Room. Walk via the Zion Gate to the Cardo, Hezekiah's Broad Wall, and enter the Wohl Archaeology Museum to view the upper Jerusalem of Jesus' lifetime. Walk to the Temple Mount and visit the Dome of the Rock, St. Stephen's Gate, St. Anne s Crusader Church, Pools of Bethesda, the Fortress of Antonia, the Via Dolorosa (the shuq) and continue to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The balance of the afternoon will be at leisure.

Day 19 - Mon Mar 29
JERUSALEM SIGHTSEEING
Region: Jerusalem
Enter the Dung Gate and visit the Western Wall (Bar Mitzvahs today). The Western Wall Tunnels will be subject to confirmation. Descend into the ruins of the City of David to enter Hezekiah's Tunnel (bring old shoes) and walk to the Pool of Siloam (Jn. 9). Visit the Israeli Museum to view biblical artifacts: the Davidic inscription from Tel Dan, the ivory pomegranate from Solomon's Temple, the Holy of Holies from Arad, the ossuary of Caiaphas, and the Shrine of the Book. Continue to the scale model of Herodian Jerusalem.

Day 20 - Tue Mar 30
DEPARTURE FOR USA
Region: Coast of Sharon
Transfer to the Tel Aviv Airport for the return flights to the USA. Fly while reliving the experiences of having walked and learned the land of the Bible. Clear customs upon arrival at the USA. Continue the journey to your home.
